The Big Rock Apothecary NFP was founded by seekers of wisdom who are looking to expand our understanding of our place in the cosmos and how this wisdom can evolve our relationship to each other and our planet.
This means internal and external forms of cleansing and study.
We consider every iteration of life to be a reflection of the macrocosm.
We believe we can use our collective knowledge and technology coupled with the ancient wisdom of alchemy to heal the inner and outer environment. The teachings of alchemy can be traced back to Sumerian tablets from 8 to 10 thousand years ago
The same symbols for the planets in modern astronomy and alchemy can be seen on these tablets.
The spiritual language of alchemy was broadcast in ancient China, India, Tibet, Greece, Egypt and Persia.
The ancient Essenes, from whom Jesus was said to have been trained in his 'silent years' also used the spiritual language of alchemy and the
Tree Of Life.
For the Essenes as well as the Alchemists; Nature was their bible.
They saw in every form of life a lesson from the whole.
We honor and draw heavily from the ancient Essenes.

In the outer sphere, the work of the hands, we can practically help nature heal the soil, water, air,
promote bio-harmonics, and our diet.
We can heal the inner environment through study of philosophy, ethics, logic, our dreams and community.
We promote the work of Dr. Carl Gustav Jung (July 26 1875 - June 6 1961), who was well versed in alchemy.
He found it in the most unexpected places; ascending from the unconscious in the dreams of his European and American patients undergoing psychiatric care. Many of us may not know him by name but Jung's ripple effects our language, history, and even our personal consciousness. He coined words such as; introvert, extrovert, synchronicity, collective unconscious and archetype. Jung's research inspired the works of Joseph Campbell and his book Hero with a thousand faces, which has effected much of literature and popular culture.
Campbell and Jung were also inspirations of George Lucas and Star Wars. You can even catch Jung hiding in the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club album cover from The Beatles. In addition to helping 1000s of patient's
psycho-spiritual problems he also extended the reach of humanity's understanding of the ecology of souls.

The Academy
The Academy is where you may find resources in subject matters ranging from Alchemy, Anatomy, Botany, Newton and Goethe's Theories On Color and Light, Logic, Philosophy, Jungian Psychology, Plant Metamorphoses, collective mythology and how this all relates to the soul.
The Essenes, from where Jesus trained in his 'silent years', follow 3 paths to wisdom.
The first is the path of the outer world; the philosopher, scientist and logician.
The second is the path of consciousness, the mystic, mendicant, and awoken dreamer.
The third is the path of the collective wisdom of humanity passed down to us by sacred texts.
This academy is structured around all three of these paths.

The Apothecary
​In The Apothecary you may find the fruits of our botanical research. This includes; alchemical elixirs, live plants, herbs, seeds, laboratory supplies, Edgar Cayce inspired creations, literature, and anything else that might be found in a warehouse that may keep the foundation running.
